When the BlackBerry Pearl contains a large amount of images, ringtones or games stored in the device, it will start slowing down and reduce available free memory greatly. If the BlackBerry Pearl's memory is near capacity it will automatically delete the oldest Call Log and Text Message (SMS) entries in to free up some memory. This is one of the reasons why you notice that your call or message logs are missing. To prevent this, free memory must be increased.
Another reason could be the setting on your phone for the amount of days messages should be kept. To change/view your setting, simply go into your message list view, then press the Menu key, scroll down and select "Options". Then scroll down to the last entry "Keep Messages" and you'll see how long your messages are kept in your inbox. You can increase this as you please however keep in mind, the higher the number of days the faster your memory will fill up - so it becomes your duty to clear your inbox more often to free up space.
Going back to the first reason you lose message/call logs - it has to do with low memory on your Pearl. I personally keep an eye on the amount of memory my Pearl has from time to time. To do this simply go to "Options", then "Status" - then you will see the amount of free memory. Your phone only holds roughly 64mb. If for any reason your free memory is 0 or very close to it... you should seriously be investing in a memory card (Memory cards are not expensive these days, see my past blog about Memory Cards).
Here are some ways to Increase Free Memory:
(Derived from BlackBerry FAQ)
1) Reduce Allocated Media Memory
2) Reduce Calendar Keep Appointments to 60 days or less
3) Reduce the amount of time Messages are kept on the handheld.
4) Clear Cache and Cookies
5) Delete Unused Languages
6) Delete Sample Video
7) Change Call Log Options
To view the steps on how to do the above tips, visit BlackBerry FAQ (Please note although the instructions on the site asks you to do a hard reset after each step - it is NOT necessary. A soft reset is fine enough.)

Thanks for the great sugestions, there are some new tools by Aerize that really help save memory too. Aerize Card Loader 2008 ( http://aerize.com/blackberry/software/loader/ ) and Aerize Optimizer 2008 ( http://aerize.com/blackberry/software/optimizer/ ) help a great deal.
Hi Aerize,
Thanks for the links i'll definitely have to follow up and create a new post regarding this software! Keep checking back for more updates.
